Paraopen spaces -- a class of peculiar spaces (English)

A Hausdorff space \(X\) with a clopen base such that the union of fewer than \(\kappa\) basic open sets is closed, is called \(\kappa\)-para-open. The author studies some basic properties of this class of spaces. The results are used for obtaining some generalizations of known results on paracompactness of box products. In addition, the author studies the question whether there exists an extremally disconnected topological group.
