The author considers a polynomial of power \(n\) with real coefficients and obtains necessary and sufficient conditions that this polynomial has all different real roots. These conditions are written for \(n\leq5\). The analysis of these conditions is done for \(n=3\) for a mechanical system. In particular, an analytical confirmation of Kelvin's experiments is obtained.
