Cost-effective structural optimization (English)
0 references
The paper deals with a special cost function which enables designers to separate material and fabrication (manufacture) costs. This approach allows to esimate a realistic minimum cost design of welded structures which are the object of considerations. Numerical examples are concerned with \(I\)-beams, stiffened box beams, stiffened plates, Vierendeel trusses, silos and bridge decks. They illustrate that significant cost savings can be achieved by minimum cost design using optimization methods.
