The survey provides a systematic discussion of results obtained while constructing a general theory of ribbed shells with a conceptual account of discrete distribution of ribs. The attention is focused on the results obtained in the Department of structural mechanics of thin-wall constructions of the Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics.
