The authoress assesses the senses in which Bolzano's philosophy, especially his epistemology, can be regarded as realist. Her focus falls upon his theory of propositions, and upon the various senses into which Bolzano divides basic notions such as `number'; abstract, pure concrete, applied, and so on. She also explains the role of representations in themselves: that, for example, the numeral `3' signified such a representation of the pure concrete number there, and that a variable quantity also represented the ensemble of values that a quantity may take.
