Husserl's researches for a philosophy of geometry (English)
0 references
The author reviews the considerations of the philosophy of geometry, apparently rather scattered, made by Husserl. He describes Husserl's general notion of the form of a theory in this context, with some attention paid to non-Euclidean geometry. Husserl seems to have slipped towards essentialism in his emphasis upon his eidetic method when explaining the connections between form and psychological perception. \{He appears not to have pondered upon the consequences of model theory for axiomatization, or of relativity theory for the understanding of space.\} The author cites little secondary literature, and nothing by Claire Hill, who has considered geometry on occasion in her writings on Husserl; some of them are reprinted in \textit{C. O. Hill} and \textit{G. E. Rosado Haddock}, Husserl or Frege? (Chicago: Open Court) (2000; Zbl 0979.03001).
