Solitons and extended objects (English)

Nonperturbative extended objects in string and/or \(M\)-theory manifest themselves as soliton-like solutions to the low-energy supergravity equations of motion. The dynamics of these objects is described by a corresponding worldvolume action. Similarly, intersections of extended objects can be described by soliton-like solutions of the worldbrane equations of motion. In this talk the author first reviews the above sketched relation between solitons and extended objects. Next, as an example, he discusses solitons on the eleven-dimensional supermembrane.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0948.00032].
