This book, intended for bachelor and graduate students in engineering and physical sciences, is written using the idea that ``whereas the aim of a scientist is to determine mathematical and physical descriptions of flow processes, and thus to derive the continuum mechanics fundamental equations, the engineer must implement this scientific knowledge in new products''. The book is a good introduction to the fundamentals of fluid mechanics needed for the analysis of technological flows, describing in a natural way transport and thermodynamic properties of fluids, statics and dynamics of incompressible flows, stream filament theory, shock waves, boundary layer and transition to turbulence, as well as their industrial applications. The author selects flows past airplane wings, flows past vehicles, and flows in pipes as representative examples to illustrate the one-dimensional fluid mechanics. A standard fluid mechanical software used in the product development, available via the Internet at \url{http://www-isl.mach.uni-karlsruhe.de/stromfaden.html}, is introduced without any description of mathematical methods of solution. The applications are demonstrated on practical examples. The book could be useful not only to engineering students, but also to teachers and other people interested in the fluid dynamics and its applications in technology.
