This book consists of ten papers written by professors from various universities of the USA. The papers deal with the issues for undergraduate mathematics education over 10 years ago. However, the next decade of calculus renewal is also discussed. The first several years of the calculus reform movement were characterized by an abundance of ideas about the organization of the course and the associated curriculum. Soon after that there came a dissemination phase, where institutions improve their own courses. Even though many mathematicians conceded that a change was indispensable, they posed many difficult issues. The purpose of these publications is to discuss a small subset of these important questions. The titles of papers reflected important information to be discussed.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEHere we present the titles of all the ten papers: (1) Calculus renewal in the context of undergraduate SMET education (M. D. George); (2) The goals of the calculus course (W. McCallum); (3) Renewal in collegiate mathematics education: learning from research (D. A. Smith); (4) Calculus renewal and the world of work (P. Davis); (5) Technology and calculus (W. Ellis, jun.); (6) Renewing the precursor courses: new challenges, opportunities, and connections (Sh. P. Gordon); (7) Program evaluation and undergraduate mathematics renewal: the impact of calculus reform on student performance in subsequent courses (J. Bookman); (8) Redesigning the calculus sequence at a research university: faculty, professional development, and institutional issues (H. B. Keynes, A. M. Olson, D. J. O'Loughlin, and D. Shaw): (9) Politics and professional beliefs in evaluation: the case of calculus renewal (A. Buccino); (10) Crossing the discipline boundaries to improve under graduate mathematics education (J. H. Lightbourne, III).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book is helpful first of all for the mathematics community in order to make changes in teaching curricula, also for all educators who are involved in the renovation of teaching mathematics.
