The author considers random iterated function systems which yield Markov chains in dynamical stationary random environments. Conditions ensuring unique ergodicity and a ``pure type'' characterisation of the random ``invariant'' measure are given which generalize the corresponding result of \textit{L. E. Dubins} and \textit{D. A. Freedman} [Ann. Math. Stat. 37, 837-848 (1966; Zbl 0147.16404)]. A dimension formula for this measure is obtained, as well.
