This book is largely a translation of the Lilavāti Punardaršana written in Marǎthi (an Indian Language) by the late Professor N. H. Phadke in 1971. The present work is an enlargement of the Marathi work and attempts a thorough mathematical explanation of definitions, formulae, short cuts and methodology as intended by Bhaskaracarya. Stiches are followed by literal translations so that the reader can enjoy and appreciate the beauty of accurate and musical presentation in Lilavati.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn 1150 AD, Bhaskaracarya, renowned mathematician and astronomer of Vedic tradition composed Lilavati as the first part of Siddhanta-Siromani, a comprehensive exposition of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, number theory and related topics. Lilavati occupies an honoured place in the history of Mathematics. It shows extraordinary prowess of Bhaskaracarya who was not only a top Mathematician but also an excellent teacher.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEFor those who are interested in both Sanskrit and Mathematics, this book is an attractive illustrated presentation.
