Let \(R=\bigoplus_{g\in G}R_g\) be a ring strongly graded by a group \(G\). The notion of a control subgroup of an ideal of \(R\), modelled after the case of group rings by \textit{D. S. Passman} [The algebraic structure of group rings, Wiley (1977; Zbl 0368.16003)], is used to derive information on the Jacobson radical of \(R\).
