The authors derive a summation identity involving the Clausenian hypergeometric series \(_3F_2\). By suitably combining this identity with the Pfaff-Saalschütz theorem, they deduce an obvious terminating case of the Whipple quadratic transformation for a well-poised \(_3F_2\).
