Instability in a viscous flow driven by streamwise vortices. (English)
0 references
The instability analysis of viscous flow, on the basis of Navier-Stokes equations, is made at different Reynolds numbers reaching the value Re = 105. The authors separate from the general flow the transversal part, called by them `crossflow plane'', normal to the streamwise direction. The separation is required by some results previously obtained in many experimental and theoretical papers. In the cross-flow plane, a counter rotating motion model is introduced, also based on previous results in the study of the problem. After non-dimensionalization of the governing equations, the authors apply two numerical methods for solution of the corresponding boundary value problems: the finite difference method and the asymptotic method. The obtained results are synthetized in many plots, diagrams and tables, commented, discussed and compared with other authors' results.
