Let \(A\) be a commutative Banach algebra with \(*\)-involution and \(B\) a non-radical commutative Banach algebra with a symmetric \(*\)-involution. The author considers a \(*\)-ring homomorphism \(\Phi:A\to B\) and describes the Gelfand transform of the image \(\Phi(A)\).
