A semi-Lagrangian finite volume method for Newtonian contraction flows (English)
0 references
The paper presents a semi-Lagrangian finite volume method for solving incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown that the method is able to solve a simple two-dimensional flow in a sudden channel contraction at different moderate Reynolds numbers with reasonable accuracy. Results concerning the numerical efficiency of the approach, e.g. comparisons with alternative approaches, are not given. Thus, advantages of the method as against standard approaches become not clear, and not much concrete conclusions, other than that the method is working for rather simple flow problems, cannot be drawn from the paper. It would be interesting to see how the method works in more complex flow situations, and if the Lagrangian treatment of the convective terms gives any benefit.
