The book is the German translation that appeared one year after the English original. The translator supplied all the necessary declarations of variables into all programs and tested all of them using Perl Version 5.6.0, RedHat 6.2/Linux 2.2, Solaris 2.7 and Windows 2000 (with the exception of several programs requiring Sybase or MS SQL database server); therefore they now enable warnings and run under strict mode.
