    A variable structure robust control algorithm with robust sliding mode function is proposed with continuous performance guarantee so that the resulting closed-loop system can be globally practical stabilized (in fact, its orbit is uniformly ultimately bounded and this system has uniform stability). Finally, the practical application of the control strategy to the design of a stability augmentation system for ship control is also presented.
