\textit{H. Komatsu} [J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A 18, 379-398 (1971; Zbl 0232.34026)] and \textit{B. Malgrange} [Enseignement Math., II. Ser. 20, 147-176 (1974; Zbl 0299.34011)] have calculated the analytical index of differential operators. In this note, the author establishes a polynomial index formula for the matrix of a differential operator. Also a regularity property for this matrix is given.
