This notice is a short scientific biography of A. V. Skorokhod -- an outstanding Ukrainian mathematician, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, worldwide famous expert in probability theory and mathematical statistics. A. V. Skorokhod was born 10.09.1930 in Nikopol, Ukraine, in a teachers' family. He graduated from the secondary school in 1948 in Kovel' and entered Kyiv State University, Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty. After graduating from the Kyiv State University he was a Ph. D. student at Moscow State University (1953-1956) under the supervision of Professor E. B. Dynkin. After returning from Moscow to Kyiv in 1957 A. V. Skorokhod started teaching at Kyiv State University. Since 1964 he is head of the department of the theory of random processes at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU). A. V. Skorokhod is doctor of science in physics and mathematics, professor (1963), corresponding member of the NASU (1967), Academician of the NASU (1985), member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2000), laureate of State prize of Ukraine in science and techniques (1982). Among the numerous results of A. V. Skorokhod the most famous are: limit theorems for random processes, constructed by sums of independent random variables; method of some probability space; topology in the space of cádlág functions -- ``Skorokhod topology''; existence of a solution of stochastic differential equation with continuous coefficients; investigation of the equations which describe the processes on the manifolds with boundary; extended stochastic integral -- ``Skorokhod integral''; strong and weak random linear operator; stochastic semigroup; NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEA. V. Skorokhod has published 21 scientific monographs and more than 300 publications of journal type. Among them: NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE\textit{I. I. Gikhman} and \textit{A. V. Skorokhod} [The theory of stochastic processes. I, II, III. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag. Skorokhod has had 50 pupils, among them there are more than 10 doctors of science in physics and mathematics. Since 1993 A. V. Skorokhod is working in Michigan State University, Lancing, MI, USA, maintaining scientific contacts with the Institute of Mathematics of the NASU.
