The authors review a new approach [see \textit{C. I. Byrnes}, \textit{T. T. Georgiou} and \textit{A. Lindquist}, A new approach to spectral estimation: A tunable high-resolution spectral estimator, IEEE Trans. Signal Process. 48, 3189-3205 (2000; Zbl 1040.93063)] to spectral estimation, based on the use of filter banks as a means of obtaining spectral interpolation data.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEBy suitable choices of filter-bank poles and spectral zeros the estimator can be tuned to exhibit high resolution in targeted regions of the spectrum. A convex optimization approach is presented, which is based on a generalized concept of entropy.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThis very readable review of the cited paper ends with some simulations of the new procedure.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0961.00036].
