The SVD-based realization structure for a general 2-D linear-phase FIR filter with an arbitrary magnitude response is presented. It is shown that by applying an appropriate unitary transform to the impulse response of a 2-D filter, an SVD realization that gives linear-phase constituent filters can always be obtained. The realization error caused by neglecting the smaller singular values is examined. Some upper bounds for the errors in the impulse response and the frequency response of the realized filters are given.
