The author models the damage by incorporating a discontinuous internal variable into strain-energy function, which triggers its change at a critical value followed by a discontinuous stress. The corresponding theory is refered as pseudo-elasticity and holds for rubber-like materials. Due to subsequent residual strains, an anisotropy is induced and accounted for as a consequence of damage. The developed analysis is specialized to equibiaxial deformation in connection with a simplified constitutive law, and is applied to radially-symmetric inflation of a thick-walled spherical shell under internal pressure as well as to deflation after pressure removal and damage occurrence. The author examines the surface discontinuity together with hoop stresses and residual strains after the vanishing of internal pressure. A number of plots illustrate numerical results on stress-stretch damage function and the behaviour of damage variables for loading-unloading.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0959.00041].
