Double Youden rectangles of sizes \((p+1)\times(p^2+p+1)\) (English)

This paper reports the results of computer searches for a type of balanced graeco-latin combinatorial design known as a double Youden rectangle (DYR). A \(k\times v\) DYR incorporates a symmetric balanced incomplete block design with \(v\) blocks of size \(k\). DYRs of dimensions \(5\times 21\), \(6\times 31\) and \(8\times 57\) are exhibited for the first time. The authors comment that their technique is not powerful enough for the next plausible case, which would be a \(12\times 133\) DYR.
