A finite difference discretization is presented for the Poisson equation (rewritten by applying the polar coordinate transformation) on the unit disk \(\Omega= \{(x,y): x^2+ y^2< 1\}\). Two numerical tests for the new finite difference discretization are performed. The present discretization can be applied with slight modification to Helmholtz type equations.
