New knot and link invariants (Q2725539)

The paper under review treats degree three Vassiliev invariants for knots both in the three-sphere and in the solid torus, and their applications to the chirality, lower bounds for the crossing number, and the Jones polynomial with two monomials. The authors use Gauß diagrams and Gauß sums (linear combinations of functions of Gauß diagrams; not the ones from number theory).
