The author develops a unifying metric formalism based on continuity spaces to discuss concepts of (path)connectedness. The presented theory encompasses both connectedness of topological spaces and uniform connectedness of uniform spaces. It also extends to a hierarchy of notions of connectedness with the help of the concept of a scale system.
