This paper was motivated by attempts to use synchronized chaotic systems for communication applications. Previous studies of synchronized chaos for use in communications have concentrated on coupled dissipative systems. There are two main disadvantages to this approach: dissipation in the transmitter dynamics produces an easily detectable characteristic signature, and rigorous statements about the statistical properties of the signal are seldom possible. Both of these problems are solved by using ergodic chaotic systems, but necessarily the dynamics must be nondissipative. The author provides numerical evidence in two cases, where the theoretical analysis is incomplete. Though the author does not prove stable synchronous motion is possible in the presence of noise, the results of the experiment in the paper indicate that a slight modification to the coupling procedure effectively eliminates the synchronization errors caused by the noise.
