The textbook provides a readable and student-friendly introduction to engineering mathematics at degree level for most UK universities. It will be useful for students of aeronautical, automotive, chemical, civil, electronic and electrical systems, mechanical, manufacturing and production engineering, as well as for self-study and continuing education. Illustrative examples from these disciplines are included. Hundreds of fully worked examples from many branches of engineering are presented. The emphasis is given through an interactive approach to develop the reader's competence to handle mathematical methods relevant to engineering. An interactive CD-based testing and assessment package with multi-choice and hotspot questions that allow students to test their understanding of key topics is supplied.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book is perfectly well designed and printed in 2-colour text; key points and important results are highlighted.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe first author A. Croft is Manager of the Mathematics Learning Support Center at Loughborough University. The other author R. Davison is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at De Montfort University.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book contains 19 chapters, appendix and index. It covers basic algebra, functions, polynomial equations and inequalities, logarithms and exponentials, trigonometry, matrices and determinants, simultaneous equations, vectors, complex numbers, differentiation and integration with corresponding techniques and applications, sequences and series, some differential equations, the Laplace transform, statistics and probability, introduction to Fourier series and the Fourier transform.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe disc includes practice tests at two levels on basic algebra, further algebra, complex numbers, functions, trigonometry, differentiation and integration.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe authors' ideas for writing this book obviously have arisen from their previous three very successful textbooks on Engineering Mathematics. Again the authors illustrate several essential features:NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE-- to think in advance and to write a book a step before it is required for teaching;NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE-- to understand the students' difficulties and to answer them by an interactive approach and by a modern testing and assessment CD;NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE-- to implement thoughtful concepts in modern engineering mathematics.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEVarious engineering examples are included in the proper place to motivate intelligent applications of mathematics. The key formulae and laws are given on the inside covers. The testing and assessment CD provides feedback for correct understanding and knowledge acquirement.
