Hydrodynamics of locomotion in the squid Loligo pealei (English)
0 references
The authors analyze in detail the mechanics of squid locomotion, including mantle deformation and fin and jet activities. A fluid dynamics model based on three-dimensional potential flow theory for slender axisymmetric bodies is presented. The work suggests that skin friction and working fluid intake are the most significant sources of drag on a swimming squid.
