The goal of this paper is the construction of globally defined periodic entropy solutions of systems of conservation laws using a periodic version of the Glimm scheme. The author presents a periodic version of the Glimm scheme applicable to special classes of \(2\times 2\) systems. For these special classes of \((2\times 2)\) systems of conservation laws a simplification of the Glimm scheme gives global existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem with large initial data in \(L^\infty \cap\text{BV}_{\text{loc}} (\mathbb{R})\).
