This is the first paperback reprint of the edition, which first appeared in 1986 (see Zbl 0592.01035). In the intervening years it has been well recognised as a fine achievement, with detailed introductions by the editorial team and others and careful English translations of Gödel's original articles. These include the famous paper of 1931 on incompletability and the thesis of the preceding year on the completenes of the first-order calculus with identity. A surprising feature is the young man's prolificity, in contrast to the long later silences; the texts rendered include several reviews published in the early volumes of this journal.
