\textit{Gh.~Vrănceanu} [Leçons de géométrie différentielle, Bucureşti (1957; Zbl 0119.17102)] studied a particular class of affine connections with constant coefficients in a suitable atlas. A natural problem was to determine the relations between spaces admitting a constant connection and locally or globally Euclidean spaces. The topic proved to be closely related to the theory of Jordan algebras. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn the paper under review, the author first surveys the relevant results obtained until now. Then she constructs a non-trivial example of a semi-Riemannian manifold carrying a constant connection of the second kind.
