A short biography of Johannes Corputius (Johan van den Corput) (1542-1611) is given. He was born in Breda, matriculated 1558 in Löwen (Leuven) University, in 1559 he was among the students of Duisburg University, from 1562 he studied mathematics with Gerhard Mercator and started to work with the Duisburg town map. Based on two leaves with records, recently found in the Library of Heidelberg University, a reconstruction is compiled how this map could have been made. 15 illustrations.
