Der im Titel genannte E. Ph. Ploennies war nach seinem Studium der Naturwissenschaften an der damals neu gegründeten Universität Halle ein Vorläufer der Aufklärung. Er war 1695-1708 in den Diensten des Landgrafen von Hessen-Darmstadt und zeitweilig Professor der Mathematik an dessen Landesuniversität Giessen.
