This publication provides some information on the achievements of N. U. Ahmed as a scholar.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEHe was born in Bangladesh (1934) and after undergraduate studies at Dhaka University he pursued his learning at the University of Ottawa with a PhD in 1965. After an interlude at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and at the University of Alberta, he came back to the University of Ottawa where he led a successful career until his retirement.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEHis fields of research may be structured in the following way: The domains of optimization and control constitute the backbone allowing to connect developments within the abstract and (or) stochastic setting and research in the applied areas (mechanics (structures, spacecraft), electrical engineering (power systems), economy, ecology and biology). The themes include stability, controllability, existence of optimal solutions, PDEs, hereditary systems, identification, filtering, nonlinear effects and they recur along the career. Differential inclusions appear in the mid eighties and they are inserted in various abstract contexts.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEN. U. Ahmed has supervised 17 PhD theses.
