Exceptional Lagrangians for spin-\(2\) field: Standard variables (English)

The paper proposes an approach based on the Lax method [\textit{P. D. Lax}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 10, 537-566 (1957; Zbl 0081.08803)] of spin-2 field theories, in terms of the standard second-order tensor. A similar approach, using the Fierz potential, is given by the author in [J. Math. Phys. 35, No. 2, 734-747 (1994; Zbl 0802.53038)].NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEAfter a short review of the Lax method, some independent invariants are constructed and a new form of the usual linear theory which involves two of the invariants is obtained, very similar to the Maxwell electrodynamics formulation. A set of exceptional Lagrangians in terms of the standard second-order tensor is finally obtained.
