The purpose of the book is to present to anyone who must extract information from the collected data the ways in which statistical techniques and SQL can be employed to answer useful questions. Individual chapters cover basic principles and diagnostic tree, measures of central tendency and dispersion, goodness of fit, tests of hypotheses, curve fitting, control charts, analysis of experimental designs and time series analysis. The book contains SQL statements in Microsoft Access 2000 and Transaction SQL for Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and is accompanied by a download from the web site \url{http://www.apress.com} containing the databases, SQL statements and routines used in all the examples, and all the corresponding statistical tables. Knowledge of SQL isn't required to understand the statistics and/or follow the examples. However, since SQL is very popular and easy to read, the reader will find the SQL statements a bonus for his/her work. Professionals who may possess minimal statistical knowledge but are looking for a specific ``how to'' information on accomplishing statistical calculations can find this book of great value, and students of computer science, business management etc. will find it more useful in explaining the tools and techniques of data mining than their traditional textbooks.
