The process of preheating a thick-wall steam pipeline is examined in a traditional way under two additional assumptions. The first one allows to consider the possible steam condensation in the initial period of preheating. The second one takes into account the heat flow through the insulation. A boundary value problem is formulated and its difference approximation is obtained. Results estimating the efficiency of the suggested model are presented.
