This French translation of the 1991 book, \textit{Problems for mathematicians, young and old} (MAA, Washington, 1991; Zbl 0814.00004) consists of 165 problems, sorted into 14 categories: combinatorics, sequences and functions, mathematical games, numbers, geometry, tilings, probability, analysis, matrices, algebra, sets, spaces, mappings, measure. Hints and solutions constitute the second and third parts of the book. While some problems require no more than basic reasoning, others require an undergraduate background. This is a fine book for university students to work through, in part because of the inclusion of some mathematical lore they should be familiar with, such as the Cantor set, Sylvester's problem and Ramsey's problem.
