This PhD thesis deals with the allocation and the re-allocation of channels to calls in a cellular network. Calls occur according to Poisson processes, and the call durations follow exponential distributions. Apart from the introduction, the book comprises three main chapters: Chapter 2 (20 p.) describes carefully the basic model with its stationary policy and the discounted cost in the call admission problem, Chapter 3 (38 p.) displays the solutions of the basic model (Erlang formula and Bernoulli-type policies), and in Chapter 4 (22 p.) the model is generalized to deal with decentralized control. An algorithm for the approximate solution of the decentralized control problem is described and numerical results are displayed.
