The author presents a technique to solve two-dimensional Poisson equations arising in the study of longitudinal Stokes flow around multiple aligned cylinders. A solution is constructed by superposing three fundamental solutions corresponding to a line source, a line couple and a pressure gradient on each cylinder. An approximate satisfaction of no-slip condition on each cylinder yields a mobility matrix relating various forces and motions of all the cylinders. For some problems involving few cylinders or with sufficient degree of symmetry, analytical solutions are derived and compared with existing exact solutions. In general, this method can be used to solve numerically any two-dimensional arrangement of cylindrical objects.
