On the appropriate treatment of singularly perturbed wave equations (English)

Often it is useful to complete the study of a simplified problem by taking into account the effects neglected at first, e.g. some small perturbations. The authors deal thus with an elastic or viscoelastic pendulum, i.e. a light rod with high stiffness, assuming that its configuration remains perfectly straight. Using a two-timing method, they obtain a second oscillation around the first one, and the damping is later taken into consideration.
