A horizontal (in general curved) rod carrying, without friction, a collar, rotates with constant angular velocity about a vertical axis. Initial conditions are given. This articie studies: (a) how the shape of the rod influences the collar's velocity when it reaches the end of the rod; (b) for which shape of the rod this velocity is a maximum, and (c) for which shape of the rod the collar reaches the end of the rod in minimal time.
