Application of continued fractions (English)

The authors wanted to write an overview of some ``striking'' applications of continued fractions to the problem of factorizing integers and to certain Diophantine equations. I think that the word ``striking'' should be deleted or changed for ``interesting''. Though there are many survey papers on these applications, I am willing to write that this is a nicely written survey of important results.
