The author proves fixed point theorems for single self-maps on a metric space \(X\) generalizing the results of \textit{K. P. R. Sastry} and \textit{G. V. R. Babu} [``Some fixed point theorems in complete metric sapces by altering distances'', Indian J. Pure Appl. Math. (to appear)] and fixed point theorems for a family of self-maps on \(X\) generalizing some results of \textit{S. V. R. Naidu} and \textit{J. R. Prasad} [Pure Appl. Math. Sci. 36, No. 1-2, 87-104 (1992; Zbl 0763.54035)] and \textit{S. V. R. Naidu} and \textit{K. P. R. Rao} [Nepali Math. Sci. Rep. 12, No. 2, 95-104 (1987; Zbl 0656.54034)].
