The paper deals with the applicability of the superposition principle, which is widely used in the linear elasticity, to plastic flows. Despite of the common acceptance that this principle is not applicable to the problems involving plastic flows, the authors try to identify certain conditions under which the upper bound limiting value of the surface traction for combined mechanism can be calculated as a weighted average of the upper bound values of original mechanisms. The study is restricted to limit analisis, under the assumption of Tresca's yield criterion of constant maximum shearing stress, that may vary within the volume of perfectly plastic body.
