The paper is part of a line of research devoted to developing a general theory of domain decomposition and the methods derived from it. Such general theory divides domain decomposition methods into two broad classes: direct and indirect approaches. In the present paper a general direct overlapping method called ``semidirect overlapping method'' which submises Schwarz methods (including multiplicative and additive methods) is introduced. The semidirect overlapping method is quite suitable for parallel implementation.
