Aspects of mathematical modelling in fluid dynamics. 23rd Brazilian mathematics colloquium. (English)
0 references
Using partial differential equations and complex variables from potential theory, the author surveys applications of mathematical modeling in fluid dynamics and wave propagation. Several problems are briefly described, and several important theorems are quoted. The Euler and Lagrange formulations are introduced, and the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible flow are treated. The author also considers linear and nonlinear wave models and their applications, especially for soliton solutions and signal propagation in optical fibers.
