The authors implement standard techniques to transform a 2-D or 3-D elliptic eigenvalue problem into matrix ones. The latter are treated with the Lanczos algorithm. In case the first eigenvalues are small and close, they implement the same techniques on the inverted problem, calculating the reciprocal values of the eigenvalues of the matrix problem. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the approach.
